Xander Herman was born in Edina, Minnesota where he first found his love of film. He began his studies at the University of Southern California where he got a design background before moving onto film.

Working in film has allowed him to travel the world and capture images that serve a greater narrative. Xander began cutting his teeth lighting and camera operating in a fast paced doc environment on shows such as HBO’s Were Here, Netflix’s Naomi Osaka doc series and Amazon’s Blu Origin.

He later brought those skills into his cinematography in his own docs, such as the award winning Farmer Lee, and even on the feature documentary: The Kids Table. Being able to light and shoot quickly has also helped him when shooting commercials for Adidas and on narratives like Repo and When You Least Expect It. Whether it’s commercials, music videos, documentaries, or narratives; Xander enjoys shaping light and composing a frame that reveals a deeper layer of character and story.
